Older Adults and Pastoral Care

Avondale UMC has an active and thriving older adult ministry. We have two vibrant Sunday School classes for our seniors: Faithful Friends and the Lucille Ross class.

 Kind Hearted Citizens is Avondale’s older adult social & outreach program. They meet on the 4th Tuesday of each month from September to May at 10:30 am for fellowship, lunch, and interesting and informative presentations given by Jacksonville’s many agencies and programs that serve the older adults in our community. Lunch is the best deal in town for $3.00 and everyone is invited. KHC also has a group travel program that ventures out to see the sights and have some fun.

 There is an Older Adult Resource Center located in the Lucille Ross class room where there are books, tapes, brochures and other information available about older adult-related issues and community agencies and programs. Betsy Clark is the coordinator for pastoral care and older adult ministries. If you or someone you know would like to schedule a pastoral care visit to your home or hospital room from Betsy or Pastor Thom please call the church office.

 Project Linus is a program that makes and distributes soft, comforting blankets to the sick, hospitalized and home bound. If you would like to help make blankets (it’s not hard and you don’t have to know how to sew) please contact Betsy or the church office. We also appreciate donations of fleece material or financial donations for materials.
